Yashwantrao Chavan Mahavidyalaya, is located at Urun-Islampur in the
Walwa Taluka of the Sangli district in Southern Maharashtra. It is 54 years old
coeducational grant-in-aid college founded in June, 1970 by Late Shri. S. D. Patil
(Ex. Member of Parliament),an educationalist and social reformer in pursuit
of “Bahujan Hitay, Bahujan Sukhay”. The college was recognized under 20.5f by
UGC in April, 1976, and permanently affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur in
June, 2005.
It has been rendering valuable service in the field of education, sports,
NSS and cultural activities since its establishment. The college caters to the need
around 1500 agrarian based rural students through seven programs at UG level
comprising B.A. (in Marathi, Hindi, English, History, Geography, Economics,),
B.Com, (in Accountancy and I. M.), B. Com (IT), B.Sc. (in Chemistry, Physics,
computer Science and Maths), B.C.S., B.B.A, and. B.C.A. and 2 PG program
M.Com., and M.C. A., and 1 Diploma in Taxation (DIT). It also runs many Career
Orientated and skill-based Courses (COCs) timely offered by the college and Shivaji
University, Kolhapur.
